Grins, drinks and purple baseball tees flooded the streets of Downtown Denver on Friday, April 13th in celebration of the Colorado Rockies’ Opening Day at Coors Field. This annual event brings thousands of Mile High City residents and Rockies fans to breweries and bars all over the city offering food and drink specials, new craft beer releases and other festivities. Most of the Opening Day festivities started a few hours before the game’s first tee off against the Chicago Cubs at 2:10 PM.

Many baseball fans chose to avoid the downtown mayhem this year by watching the game at craft breweries located in other Denver neighborhoods, such as Copper Kettle Brewing Company. Copper Kettle tapped the second edition of its Imperial French Saison, “Le Chapeau,” a uniquely aromatic ale aged in lightly toasted Merlot and Pinot Noir wine barrels. This limited release is available on draft, as well as in 22-ounce bombers, and is the perfect beer to enjoy with friends on Opening Day.

Located in Denver’s Lower Downtown district, known as LoDo, Lucky Pie Pizza & Tap House held its second annual Opening Day Pig Roast late Friday morning. Lucky Pie’s patio was packed with Rockies fans enjoying savory pork belly and craft beers from Epic Brewing. Created in Salt Lake City more than 20 years ago, Epic Brewing is quickly becoming a regional favorite among craft beer connoisseurs after ‘hopping’ over to Denver in 2013. Epic Brewing also opened its Denver brewery an hour early on Opening Day due to its convenient location less than a mile down the road from Coors Field.

ViewHouse Eatery, Bar & Rooftop‘s Ballpark location is always one of the most popular destinations during Rockies games. On Opening Day, ViewHouse opened their doors at 9am offering breakfast burritos, drink specials, giveaways and live DJs. Its rooftop patio provides a captivating view of Coors Field in downtown Denver. Fans lucky enough to find a table on Opening Day can watch the game on the television while hearing the roar of fans from the baseball stadium. ViewHouse offers an impressive selection of Colorado drafts, including those by Great Divide, Ska and Odell Breweries. Mile High City is looking forward to a great season filled with plenty of great baseball, beer and food.
